Wesley Alden
Based in Orlando, FL
I’m an award-winning, multimedia journalist who has transformed my career to match the industry’s ever-changing demands.
At the Orlando Sentinel, I’ve been a news and features designer, earning state and national awards. I transitioned into a leadership role, leading a team of seven designers and overseeing the design of 15 weekly sections. I’ve been responsible for training reporters and editors on new technology that they use daily, and I was a go-to person in the newsroom for special projects.
As the industry turned from print to digital, I made the transition, too.
I am a video and podcast producer for the Orlando Sentinel. I’ve earned three regional Emmy nominations, and I was part of the team that won an Emmy for coverage of the Pulse massacre.
My collaboration skills helped make “Orlando Sentinel Now,” a live webcast on Facebook, a success. As the producer, I selected the topics, work across departments with reporters, locked in talking points with hosts and hunted down visuals.
I am the go-to person when it comes to producing podcasts in the newsroom. In 2021, Editor and Publisher awarded "Joel Greenberg: The Man, The Scandal, The Players" an EPPY for best podcast and a five-part true crime podcast about the 2016 murder of rising star Christina Grimmie has 298,177 unique downloads to date.
I understand the importance of cultivating a strong social media presence. My social videos help drive traffic, and I emphasize viewer interaction during live shows.
I’m a creative thinker, devising fresh approaches to telling stories through design and now video and podcasts. The skills I’ve learned in the newsroom have made me a versatile, deadline-oriented, team player ready to take on any challenge.
